My grandma fought for many more months than the doctors said she could. My step dad fights every day. The least I can do for them, for everyone who battles this disease, is join in the fight.
I think there’s this tiny part of me, the same part in all of us, that says I can’t do it. That says I’m not tough enough or strong enough or brave enough. And I want to punch her in the face. I want to prove to her that she’s wrong. That I can get into a ring and get punched and do something hard.
My grandma did that. She was the toughest person I know. She died of peritoneal cancer last year after fighting it for many more months than the doctors said she could. She fought. My step dad is fighting multiple myeloma cancer right now. Every day he’s fatigued and nauseous and hears that same voice, and everyday he fights. The least I can do for them, for everyone who battles this disease, is join in the fight.
I’m fighting for them, I’m fighting for me, I’m fighting to KO cancer.
