I'm stepping into the ring for the first time to honor the incredible people in my life who have faced, or are currently facing, the ultimate fight against cancer. This journey is deeply personal and fueled by immense love and remembrance. My mother Cindy fought a brief, courageous battle with cancer, teaching valuable lessons along the way and exuding grace until the very end. Her strength continues to fuel me each day. My lifelong friend's father, Bob, endured cancer with the same soft smile he always wore. His coolness under fire will guide me on fight night. Captain James Joseph Hanson Jr., with whom I was privileged to be friends with through college and beyond, was a dedicated patriot who fought the enemy overseas only to come home to a different war. As with many of our post 9/11 Veteran war heroes, JJ was exposed to toxic burn pits and chemicals. 100% of my fundraising efforts will be directed to HunterSeven Foundation, which "supports post 9/11 Veterans and their families affected by military related illnesses, particularly those from toxic exposures, by providing access to medical care, research, and resources."
