The past year has taken my family on an incredible journey, filled with unforgettable moments. Our hearts overflowed with joy when we welcomed our precious baby boy, Frankie Davanzo, into the world on May 15, 2023, coincidentally sharing the same birthday as his extraordinary mother, Erin. The longing to start a family and embrace the joys of parenthood has always burned brightly within us, particularly for my wife Erin, whose childhood dreams revolved around this very moment. Yet, as life often teaches us, dreams don't always come easy—they are often accompanied by obstacles that test our resilience. On September 2nd, 2017, my wife and I exchanged vows and embarked on a new chapter together. The memories of that day hold a special place in my heart. However, the euphoria of our wedding swiftly transformed into fear and despair when we received devastating news in my wife's doctor's office upon returning from our honeymoon. At the young age of 27, Erin was diagnosed with Stage 2 Cervical Cancer. Our hopes were shattered, and we realized that the path to having a child of our own would be far from straightforward. Gratefully, we discovered a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness—utilizing a surrogate to keep our dreams alive. To the doctors and the incredible Herman family who made this possibility a reality, we will forever be indebted. Watching my wife navigate this challenging period with unwavering strength and an indomitable spirit was awe-inspiring. Her determination to fight not only for herself but also for our future child and our family left me speechless. I struggle to find words to convey just how amazed and proud I am of her. She carried herself with grace throughout the entire journey. Today, I am overjoyed to share that my wife is cancer-free. This experience has become my driving force, propelling me to participate in this event. Witnessing my wife fight like a warrior has awakened a fire within me to join the battle against cancer, ensuring that no family has to endure the pain and heartache we faced, or worse. I am immensely grateful to the Haymakers organization for granting me this incredible opportunity. I extend my deepest appreciation to my family and close friends, especially one of my life long closest friends, Johnny Bean (a former Haymaker fighter), who played a pivotal role in persuading me to sign up for this event. Johnny, you are my brother, and I love you. Being a part of this process fills my heart with gratitude, and I eagerly anticipate witnessing the transformative results of our collective efforts. In addition to dedicating this fight to my wife, I will also hold my grandma, Nonna, who we lost a few months back, close to my heart throughout this journey. Though she didn't pass from cancer, Nonna was a guiding light in our family, finding joy in watching her grandchildren pursue happiness. Her spirit will guide me.
