My decision to step in the ring comes after the loss of my grandfather this past year, following a battle with prostate cancer. For those who had the pleasure of knowing him, he lived to make his community better, eager to help others, and was a leader in every sense of the word.

Cancer has a profound ripple effect for those who have dealt with it. Whether it is receiving the diagnosis, undergoing treatment, or facing the uncertainties that it brings, it takes a village of support and sacrifice. Cancer doesn’t affect just one person – it has a lasting impact on families, friendships, and communities.

For my closest friend, and my mother-in-law, who have dealt with the effects of cancer head on, your resilience inspires me. You have never hesitated, never complained, and always show up despite the conditions. You have chosen to make the best out of a situation that you face.
