Goal
Haymakers for Hope’s mission is to knockout cancer the only way we know how, by literally fighting for a cure.
On May 11th, 2023, on behalf of Haymakers for Hope, I will be stepping into the ring for my first ever boxing match. Haymakers for Hope is a foundation that gives people the chance to fight for those who are battling with cancer. They are a charity with the mission to not just to raise money but raise awareness on the terrible affects this disease can have on people and those around them
There are many reasons why I decided to get into the ring. The main reason is raising as much proceeds as possible to continue to battle this horrible disease. These past two years have hit me personally the hardest, as cancer has taken and hurt some of those closest to me. When I step into the ring I will have four people in my heart that I will be fighting for.
The first person I’m stepping into the ring for is James Merritt Hitchings Sr., who passed away in February of 2021 to cancer. He is the father of one of my best friends and was lost incredibly too soon. He was a very warm and exceptionally kind man and was also an avid Bills fan (maybe they’ll get their super bowl this year)
The second person I will be stepping into the ring for is William Francis McGovern who lost their battle to cancer in March of 2022. William was also a father of a really close friend of mine and lost way too soon. He was an exceptional man who had a deep appreciation for music, food, and drink. He was also known for his charismatic humor, which I deeply miss.
The third person I’m stepping into the ring for is Alfred P. Pace who passed away in May 2022. He was the father of arguably my best friend and was lost much too soon. Al was the epitome of family man, his smile, his laugh, his love life attitude was everything. He dedicated his life to work and giving back to the community of Needham throughout the years.
The fourth and most personal reason I’m stepping into the ring is because of my late father Craig Stephen Hughes, who passed away to cancer in July of 2021. My father’s commitment to serving the community of Dover for 45 years was unquestionable and the reason I’m the man I am today. He served the community in many different capacities, most recently he was the Fire Chief and Superintendent of Street for the Town. He was the absolute definition of “shirt off your back” type of guy. He was and still is my biggest role model in life and everything I do is with him in mind. He is always missed, and he was gone too soon.
All of these people were and are super important to me and I appreciate any donation to my campaign as we set out for a good time and raise as many proceeds as possible for this amazing charity. While I have committed to raising at least $10,000 for Haymakers for Hope, with your support, I believe we can far surpass that!
Thank you for taking the time to read. I hope you will support me in fighting for those who are fighting a battle to cancer, and for those who can’t fight anymore.
