Haymakers for Hope’s mission is to knockout cancer the only way we know how, by literally fighting for a cure.
F*** Cancer!
Like so many families who are impacted by this terrible disease, my family knows all too well the struggles and pains of cancer. It takes a warrior to battle cancer - getting punched in the face a few times is nothing compared to the fight for survival that thousands of people battle every day.
My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 9 years old. She is the warrior that I am stepping into the ring for on May 11th. She fought like hell and she won. But her battle was not over - a few years later she was fighting again, this time against a brain tumor. Her resilience, determination, and will to survive are a beacon of strength that my family will always hold. I am incredibly proud of my mom's fight against cancer, and even more proud that, even between treatments, her first priority was always my brother and me. We were too young to understand cancer, but my mom always made sure that we knew she would fight and survive. Even when the outcome is survival, my family experienced first-hand the lasting impact cancer can have on a family - my mom will carry the weight of cancer for the rest of her life.
While the strength and will to survive from my mom are awe inspiring, she would not still be with us today if it wasn't for the amazing support provided by her team of doctors and nurses at Dana Farber. Ranging from treatments to providing comforts at the hospital to even involving my brother and I in children's programs to better understand what was going on, the support my family received at Dana Farber was life-saving. I can not think of a better hospital to support in my fundraising.
I am incredibly honored to have the chance to participate in Haymakers this May. Participating is not a decision I took lightly, but I cannot think of a better initiative and cause to fight for. Over the next four months I will train intensely for my fight with the goal to make all of those who support my journey proud. There will be a lot of sweat and blood (hopefully not too much blood!), and I promise to give this opportunity everything I have.
I am fighting for people like my mom who fought and survived. For people who fought with everything they had but lost their battle. For the amazing doctors, nurses, and researchers who spend tireless hours working on treatments and for a cure. Haymakers for Hope provides me the opportunity to help in the fight against cancer and I hope that you join me in this fight and consider donating towards this amazing cause.
There's room for everyone in my corner on Fight Night - let's Knock Out Cancer together!
What is Haymakers?
We give everyday men and women the opportunity to fight back against this terrible disease by training for, and competing in charity boxing events to raise money and awareness. To prepare for each event, we combine the efforts of the first time amateur boxing participants, local boxing gyms and volunteers. We hope to help give life saving researchers the resources needed to fully focus their efforts on finding a cure.
