“Big Ed” — My father was a first responder at Ground Zero on September 11th 2001. On May 10th 2013, he and fellow Local 40 Ironworkers set the final beam on the Freedom Tower. On May 16th 2026, he was diagnosed with tonsil cancer. On November 5th, I fight for him.
Sometimes you just got to fight until you can’t fight no more. You got to lie down, bleed a while. Then you got to get up and fight again.
In any fight, the battle always lies within.
You know what I love about boxing, it gives you a chance to step in that ring and make life fair again. So does cancer.
One of my father’s favorite quotes, “Life is a storm. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes. You must look into that storm and shout. Do your worst, for I will do mine.”
I Love you dad.
If I can make you half as proud of me as I am of you, I’ve already won.
Now it’s your turn.
