Boxing workouts helped me get through the pandemic and played a big role in my losing 60 lbs since I was at my heaviest in 2020. I quickly fell in love with the sport and knew I wanted to take the next step: competing in an amateur bout—at least once—while I’m still young enough to do it properly. Getting to do that while raising money for the fight against cancer makes this opportunity even more meaningful.
I lost my aunt to cancer and had other family members go through treatment. Many of my friends have also been affected by this horrible disease. I'm stepping into the ring to fight for those who no longer can, for everyone who's lost a loved one, and for the kids whose lives were cut tragically short. There was a time in my life when I would've been too afraid to do something like this, but I'm not that person anymore.
I've committed to raising money for two organizations:
The National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, which is dedicated to funding and developing novel research and clinical trials to find less toxic, more effective treatments for childhood cancer.
The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, one of the top cancer centers in the nation.
I'm excited to train for this fight, but this isn't just about boxing. It's about showing up, pushing past fear, and doing something hard for an important cause. I hope I can inspire others to take action in their own way.
