"No regrets, that's my motto...that and everybody Wang Chung tonight"
I am fighting in memory of my mom Hoong Wei Lee Speicher.
When I was in high school, my mom decided to take up ice hockey at the age of 50. As far as I know, she had never played an organized sport in her life. Yet, at the subtle suggestion of a colleague, she dove head first into this new venture. I watched her as hockey became a new part of her identity and the thing she looked forward to every Sunday night. After she was diagnosed with lung cancer, she didn't stop. She continued playing hockey for as long as she physically could. It's that kind of fight, boldness, and determination that is inspiring me to fight this spring.
When cancer really started to weaken my mom, and slowly took away her ability to play hockey, go to work, and affect her other normal daily routines, I always felt guilty because I was away at college while the rest of my family was at home helping take care of her. I look at this as my opportunity to make up for not being at her side when she was at her weakest.
While it's too late to help my mom, I am hoping the money I raise will help other people's mothers, and the countless other innocent people who are also suffering from cancer, to get the treatment and support they need to fight and beat this shitty disease.
Please help me in my mission to honor my mother and raise money to help provide services for patients to knockout cancer.
