Goal
Haymakers for Hope’s mission is to knockout cancer the only way we know how, by literally fighting for a cure.
I am fighting in honor of my Grandfather Adelbert "Bud" Spanos and Aunt Soozie Spanos who both lost their lives to cancer.
Grandpa Spanos served in the Pacific Theater of World War II, and the asbestos from submarines caused a lifetime of severe health problems. It was only due to his unbelievably strict diet and non-stop physical activity did he live until 2001. His kindness and generosity profoundly impacted my life. Ultimately, he is a fallen hero of WWII.
Aunt Soozie, was a wonderful and hilarious relative who was taken from my Uncle Chris too soon. Seeing her deteriorate from an active woman who frequently toured America in an RV into a cancer patient confined to a wheelchair was heartbreaking. I cannot begin to imagine the suffering she and my Uncle endured.
They both cared deeply about children, so I have selected St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to receive all donations raised through my Haymakers for Hope fundraising. The mission of St. Jude's is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.
As a child, I watched Danny Thomas on classic TV reruns. I am impressed to see his hospital ensures that "no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay."
Please stand with me and Haymakers for Hope as we knock out cancer!
