Growing up, I heard endless stories of my grandfather who we lost to cancer when I was a toddler. Then, when I was in high school, my grandma began her fight with lymphoma and then stomach cancer. In my first year after college, my best friend was diagnosed with leukemia.

Throughout my life, cancer has impacted those I love. Plans were put on hold and dreams changed as they began the difficult journey to defeat this terrible disease. Thankfully, my grandma and best friend are still alive today. They persevered with strength and hope that serve as my daily inspiration. 

While I can only aspire to be as brave as they were, I am participating in Haymakers for Hope's 2nd Annual Beltway Brawl on November 4th to fight in their honor and for those who are researching to find a cure.
