Goal
As a nurse, just about every day we see and feel the effects of cancer. We see how it affects patients and their families spiritually, emotionally, physically and financially. The little things we take for granted each day, such as, getting out of bed can be near impossible. At work, not only do we treat patients medically but we motivate, strengthen and support them to achieve their best for the day and keep moving forward. When we learn about our patient’s each shift, it’s almost guaranteed cancer is in their past/present medical history. What isn’t expected is coming in for your shift and having a fellow co-worker, or I should say family member, tell you they were diagnosed with breast cancer. I remember the day Emily told us she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She said it with a smile and brushed it off as if it were no big deal. Emily is an inspiration, despite everything she has been through, is going through and they road ahead; I’ve never seen anyone so positive. She always has a smile on her face and the strength and courage she shows is truly admirable.
I work with a very tight knit group of nurses, who truly are some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met and I consider myself greatly blessed. We are there for each other through everything; good shifts, bad shifts, code blues, code browns, pregnancies, marriage, break-ups, death, injuries and hardships. We on E7 are family, so we stand with Emily in her corner to fight together. I can only hope to be as strong as she when I step in the ring October 7th at the House of Blues to KO cancer. This one is for you Emily!!! #emilyscorner
