Why I box

Our greatest glory is not in falling, but rising each time we fall.

I started my journey after my husband and I had decided to run The Walt Disney World Marathon to help raise funds for Cancer Research in Disney World.  We met a wonderful group of people through Caleb's Crusade.  We learned the story of Caleb Whan and his valiant fight, at Age 4, against Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  At the time, we had a 4 year old son.  It hit so close to home that this particular charity just felt right.  We ran a few events over the 3 years with Caleb's Crusade and made some wonderful friends.  The charity, fully formed, changed directions toward the fight at the capital and the charity runs stopped.  But we were etrneally grateful for the reationships we made.

Over the last few years, Cancer had taken a more direct role in our family's life.  My husband lost his mother to an inoperable lung tumor, complicated by her COPD.  Then both his father and stepfather were diagnosed with different cancers shortly thereafter (Dec 2016).  In July 2017, he lost his stepdad.  Through a family friend and Haymaker Alumni, he found and applied to  Haymakers For Hope.  It made him feel a little less helpless in the battle against Cancer.  He fought the Rock N Rumble Event in May 2018.  During training, he lost his Grandfather to the same cancer that took his stepdad.

A year later, his dad is still battling, like so many others:

Another Mom in Dedham...

A classmate of my son...

I know Haymakers is a "one and done" event, due the nature of the event.  People ask my husband all the time if he was "going to do haymakers again".  We both explain, that's not how it works.

But then I realized.  I can fight!

I can help.

We can win.

I have people in my corner, but donations help in the fight.  Please consider.  No amount is too small!

Thank you for taking time to read my story.

Haymakers For Hope:

We give everyday men and women the opportunity to fight back against this terrible disease by training for, and competing in charity boxing events to raise money and awareness. To prepare for each event, we combine the efforts of the first time amateur boxing participants, local boxing gyms and volunteers. We hope to help give life saving researchers the resources needed to fully focus their efforts on finding a cure.
