"If you feel like there’s something out there that you’re supposed to be doing, if you have a passion for it, then stop wishing and just do it." - Wanda Sykes
I fight to improve existing cancer research and make further strides in finding a cure. I found Haymakers for Hope through a friend who competed in the Rumble in the Rockies H4H event in Denver, Colorado. Seeing the positive impact that she and her fellow fighters have made was and still is inspiring and really spoke to the idea that one person can make a difference. And if one person can make a difference in the fight against cancer, imagine what 30 amateur boxers can accomplish. ;)
My charity of choice is St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. St. Jude's is leading the way the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Their mission is to advance cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. They believe that no child should be denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.
St. Jude's focus is simple:
1) Cost to family is $0: Families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
2) Saving kids worldwide: St. Jude's has treated children from all 50 states and from around the world.
3) The goal is 100% survival: Treatments invented at St. Jude's have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago.
Every little donation helps to #KOCancer and I hope to have you in my corner in September.
