Why I box

"If you're going to do something, give it 100% or don't do it at all."

- Richard "Chip" Jennings (aka Dad/grandpa/brother/uncle/cousin/Chipster/Chippie/Chipper-Do/etc.)

My reason:

On September 15, 2018, I lost one of the most important people in my life - my Dad - to this terrible disease. After a year and half of chemo treatments that ultimately proved ineffective, he was finally approved for a clinical trial. Unfortunately, just before the trial was scheduled to begin, doctors determined that the cancer was too far advanced for any further treatment to be beneficial. Instead of starting a clinical trial, he was advised to start hospice care. Words can't begin to express how excruciating it was to watch something so awful happen to someone who has dedicated his entire life to helping others.

This year, almost one year to the day since his passing, I will have the incredible opportunity to literally punch cancer in the face by jumping in the ring for charity.

While it may have been too late for my Dad, it's not too late for the millions of people who will be diagnosed with cancer each year. There are discoveries and breakthroughs being made every day, and we can't afford to lose hope.

So...will you help me by chipping in whatever you can to support those facing the most important bout of their lives?

Cancer SUCKS, and they need us in their corner.

Let's do this.

The cause:

I am very proud to be raising funds for the HealthWell Foundation, a highly-regarded charity* that helps underinsured Americans afford the critical care they need. Specifically, your donations will benefit the Cancer-Related Behavioral Health Fund, which can help cancer patients pay for prescription drugs to treat a behavioral health condition related to a cancer diagnosis, counseling, psychotherapy, and transportation related to the above services.

Where your money is going:

  • 100% of donations made on this site will go to the HealthWell Foundation's Cancer-Related Behavioral Health Fund.

  • Proceeds from ticket sales (expected to go on sale during the second half of July), which are associated with the overall entertainment value of the event itself, will support Haymakers for Hope operations, expansion, and a special initiatives fund that will provide future patient programming.

Either way, you are helping to kick cancer's ass.

*In 2018, the HealthWell Foundation spent over 99% of every dollar it received from all sources on patient grants and services and less than 1% on administrative costs. The HealthWell Foundation has a four-star rating on Charity Navigator and is on their Top 10 list of the "Best Charities Everyone's Heard Of." They are also a top-rated non-profit by Great NonProfits and a GuideStar Platinum Participant.

I am deeply grateful for each and every contribution - whether it's a financial donation or moral support and encouragement. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
