Mike Tyson once said, "everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth". Cancer is that punch; de-railing life plans and changing everything for the people it affects. Haymakers for Hope is about helping people punch back.
The fight against this sickness has no clear condition of victory. There’s no ref, no 10 count. Victory can be remission, it can be one extra day with your loved ones, it can even be living your life as you wish in the time you’re given.
Auntie Connie, my wife’s aunt, recently passed away at the end of a long battle with cancer. She was the first of my wife’s extended family I ever got to speak to: diagnosed with cancer shortly before I met her. It’s hard to believe this energetic woman had been fighting cancer the entire time I knew her. Her children are near the ages my brother and I were when our parents lost their health battles, albeit to different ailments, and being an observer this time around made me ask myself “what can I do?”
I’ve known about Haymakers 4 Hope for a couple years, and when I heard they were coming to DC I knew this was my opportunity to join the fight. Now I don’t think I’m the type of person that will enjoy getting punched in the face, but if this all gets someone one more day, one more joke, or one more hug with someone they love, then I’m here for it. Please join me in this fight by donating to my campaign. Let's honor those who are in this fight against cancer, but not by choice.
