Why I box

"It [cancer] is the story of patients who struggle and survive, moving from one embankment of illness to another. Resilience, inventiveness, and survivorship - qualities often ascribed to great physicians - are reflected qualities, emanating first from those who struggle with illness and only then mirrored by those who treat them. If the history of medicine is told through the stories of doctors, it is because their contributions stand in place of the more substantive heroism of their patients." - The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer

Haymakers for Hope is personal to me. My close friend and mentor - not much older than I am - faced prostate cancer this past year. He won his battle after an unexpected diagnosis and a difficult journey through treatment. My Aunt Cindy, however, had a worse outcome. She succumbed to ovarian cancer several years ago after multiple rounds of treatment. She left an undeniable legacy of love and care, and her family and mine still grieve her loss. The list is longer, unfortunately, of those in my life or with only a few degrees of separation, who are impacted by cancer.

I'm fighting in Haymakers because healthcare is my profession, too. At GoodRx, I'm working to make medicines more affordable for all Americans, regardless of socioeconomic class or insurance status. When I worked in the pharmaceutical industry at Merck & Co., I launched an immuno-oncology drug called Keytruda to improve health outcomes for skin cancer patients, among other types of cancer. I started my career as a corporate responsibility consultant, advocating that Big Pharma make their therapies more accessible and affordable, while investing in innovative R&D that improves lives.

It's a privilege to fight in Haymakers for Hope and to contribute to such an important organization and cause. Thank you for your support and involvement, and please come cheer me on during fight night on April 27th!
