I’d like to start by thanking the Haymakers For Hope team for selecting me to compete and participate in such a wonderful benefit with many positive notions associated to it.
I chose to compete within The Beltway Brawl IV after witnessing my dear friend, Caren Plummer, do the same the year previous. The date of her fight (Beltway Brawl III) also coincidentally happened to be her birthday. Earlier that same day, I unfortunately lost my 7 year old dog, Boss, to an aggressive and rapid form of lymphoma. Caren fortunately won her bout that evening so the day was truly bittersweet. Earlier that year on March 5th 2022, which happened to be my birthday, I spent the entire day at my Uncle Patrick’s funeral and celebration of life who had recently passed from a three year battle with esophageal cancer. Only seven months prior to his passing, my dear cousin Miguel in Accra, Ghana who was an immaculate chef passed away ironically from none other than stomach cancer. He left behind our large family, but more importantly his wife and three daughters whom one of them was three months away from being conceived leading her to never met her amazing father.
All of these personal losses I endured within the last two years plus the millions of lives that have been lost throughout the world due to cancer are why I choose to fight while I still can. The ability to most importantly produce donations via my fighter charity fund as well as shed further light on how important it is to assist within the endless attempts of defeating cancer through cancer research is beyond a reason for me to train, endure potential pain and jump in the ring Sept. 13th 2023 to compete against my opponent. For those whose lives have been lost due to cancer, and the many survivors that happily still remain with us, I stand strong with them as we all try to #KOcancer! ??
