My beautiful, witty, and vibrant friend and colleague at only 34 years old was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo aggressive chemotherapy. It is unbelievable that even with insurance her out of pocket medical bills are costing her tens of thousands of dollars. Thankfully, the treatments were successful and the cancer is now undetectable. However, not a day goes by when we talk (and we talk every day!) that the physical and emotional effects of cancer aren’t on the forefront of our conversations. Just last night when we were together we were discussing her swollen legs, slew of upcoming doctors’ appointments, and the struggle to stay positive under the most challenging of circumstances.
Cancer is unsuccessfully trying to take away my dear friends health, happiness, and hope but not everyone is this lucky. And this is why I fight.
