Why I box

On November 3rd, I will be fighting in honor of Scout Scaravilli and will be training in #ScoutsHonor every day leading up to the fight.

My grandmother and two of my aunts have each fought their own battle against cancer and their courage is my reason for stepping into the ring. My grandma, Selma Moffie, a.k.a. the OG fighter, has battled breast cancer four times (and is still crushing the golf course at 91 years old). My two aunts, Celia Moffie and Cathy Demio, are also fighters and have taught me and the rest of my cousins how to get up and fight like a girl. I am quite frankly terrified of stepping into the ring but I am fighting in an effort to emulate even an ounce of the courage that my grandma, aunts, and everyone else who is or has battled cancer has found within them to fight. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Haymakers for Hope to help raise funds to KO cancer.

I am fighting in honor of Scout Scaravilli, my beautiful, sweet cousin.  Scout and her sister Chasey passed away in a hammock accident two years ago. Scout saved her twin sisters, Coco and Cassidy, by getting them off of the hammock when she knew something wasn’t right. Scout is a hero and was always selfless in her fight for kindness and to help other people. In 2020, Scout began taking boxing lessons at her boxing gym, Team DNA, in Cleveland and quickly became passionate about boxing and her training. Scout was as brave as she was kind and I have no doubt that she would have had the courage to fight for Haymakers had she had the chance. For that reason, on November 3rd I will be fighting in Scout’s honor and will be training in #ScoutsHonor every day leading up to the match.

PS.

While Chasey Honor Scaravilli was born for the stage, it would be irresponsible of me to wish her to fight in good conscious given how many times she walked away from the center of attention with a new cast. Don’t worry Chasey, you are still getting your shout out in #ScoutsHonor.

I would be touched if you could please join me in my efforts to fight for a cure to KO cancer. There are several ways that you can contribute. The link to donate to the event is now open and 100% of proceeds from individual ticket sales, which will go on sale starting in September, will go towards my fundraising. There is also an opportunity to buy tables/sponsorships for the event available at this time.

Lastly, if your company matches donations, I’d encourage you to please utilize the matching program. The Haymakers For Hope tax ID# is 30-0694643. A list of companies that participate in the donation match can be found in the drop-down list on the donation form.
