Goal
Haymakers for Hope’s mission is to knockout cancer the only way we know how, by literally fighting for a cure.
Over the past few months I slowly began easing into the sport of boxing. As I continued to learned some of the basics I strived to learn more and do more within to hone my skills. While scanning through social media, I happened to come across haymakers for hope.
This event is a fundraiser towards cancer research. The first person who came to mind was my best friend, mentor, brother Austin Kaigler. In 2018 he was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. It wasn’t the first time I’ve heard someone was diagnosed with cancer but I never imagined someone so close to me and as strong as him would ever go through such a thing. We talked almost weekly and to hear struggles that he had to go through and the changes within his body was unlike anything I could ever imagine, but he was strong through the entire process. On October 19th, 2019, Austin was able to finally say that he was cancer free and he fought one of the toughest battles he’d ever face in his life. Even after that day his fight still continues with all of the effects that the cancer treatment took on his body but today it is great to say that he is still doing what he loves and pursues his passion as a strength coach.
I’m excited to use this platform to raise funds for cancer research through the amazing sport of boxing.
