“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!” - Rocky Balboa
My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer 2.5 years ago. Her battle, and the amazing doctors, nurses and administrators that treated her at Dana Farber, have motivated me to help win the fight against cancer. During my wife's treatment, boxing provided an emotional outlet. I did what I could at home to help with the day to day tasks of a family of 6 (we have four boys, ages; 13, 11, 8 and 6) but I still felt powerless. Boxing offered a metaphorical way to “fight” along-side her. It mitigated the stress of my wife's illness and helped suppress the helpless feeling that comes from watching someone you love battle through chemo, radiation and a double mastectomy. I now want to translate my experience into action. Through Haymakers, I hope that my contribution can, in some small way, help each patient in their own fight against cancer. With the support of all of you, the amazing people at Dana Farber will be given the resources to find a cure, so that another family never has to experience the fear, pain and helplessness that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Dana Farber is a special place that has given my family so much. I ask for your support in helping us and Dana Farber knock out cancer. Thank you.
