I started boxing because life threw me my own challenges and hitting a bag empowered me to become stronger while opening my eyes to the fact that I am not alone in the fight of LIFE.
Cancer took many great people from me, including my favorite person in the world, Pop-Pop. I can't pinpoint exactly why we had such a bond, but as I learn more about myself I learn more about us. My Pop-Pop to me was fun, loveable, and fearless but others might have noticed his strong eyes, rough hands and no "BS" demeanor. When we lost my Mom-Mom to cancer, he seemed "sad", but I learned a few years later when I got the worst call of my life, that he had been fighting cancer alone, and lost.
I never got to tell him not to give up, that I was there for him, that we had so much left to do still! Most importantly, I didn't get to tell him I loved him one last time. He was too stubborn to let me fight for him then, so I will fight for him now and hope he knows when the final bell rings, that I love him!
To all those battling now, and to the battles to come, do not fight alone, let me and other be in your corner!!!
