About 8 years ago one of my best friends and college roommate was diagnosed with breast cancer. I will never forget that phone call. Usually when I see her name pop up on my phone we immediately start with a joke or something silly; this call did not start like that. She told me the news and my heart sank, I started crying and she started comforting me. That's the thing about these real-life super heroes, they are the strongest people on earth, and in the face of uncertainty they are the ones providing comfort and reassurance to their loved ones. Nobody should never have to go through chemo, radiation, invasive surgeries that will affect them for the rest of their lives, at any age. That is why I fight. I am so glad that my best friend fought so hard to beat that awful disease, and against all odds is healthy and about to welcome her first baby into the world! There was a time when we did not know how long we had, and now we are grateful for every moment.

So, when I’m at the gym, getting punched in the face, legs burning from the assault bike, fighting for another round on the bag, I think about these people who don’t have a choice and I fight for them.
