Goal
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself ANY direction you choose. - Dr. Seuss
I accepted the challenge of competing the 2021 “Belles of the Brawl” for two reasons. Far too many people have been affected by cancer. My first experience with cancer occurred when a close family friend, one who inspired my love of theatre and inclusivity (and eventually my whole career) passed away when both I, and her amazing children, were just kids. Most recently, a dear friend of mine's mother took on the fight against cancer and I am happy to say that she is crushing it! But it's a fight she never should have needed to take on in the first place. Unfortunately, these experiences are far too relatable. I’m committed to doing my part to help conquer this disease, and signing up to (literally) Knock Out cancer is one step forward in a fight we're all taking on together.
Second, I want to give back to the sport that has given me so much. Becoming a boxer teaches you to trust yourself, trust your body, and trust your team. When I found boxing, I was struggling. I didn't yet know who I was or who I wanted to become. Thanks to my coach, my team, and this sport, I'm gaining self-confidence and both physical and mental strength.
Thank you to Haymakers, my team, and each and every one of you who choose to support this fight. Together we can #KOCancer
