I am honored that I was chosen to participate in Haymakers for Hope Belles of the Brawl! It is such a wonderful event. Cancer has touched my life as it's touched most if not everyone in some shape or form. My mother was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 41 (I was 11). She went in for what was a standard hysterectomy and the doctors found a sarcoma wrapped around her pelvis. She passed away from cancer a short 4 months later. My Dad was diagnosed with Esophogeal cancer and passed away in 2007. At the same time he was battling esophogeal cancer, a very good friend of mine (Dickie Danforth) was diagnosed with the same cancer and he died in his 50s. Every day I read about children battling cancer, or friends dying of cancer and I wanted to be able to do something to challenge myself to help raise money and help find a cure. While I am fighting in memory of my mom and my dad, I am dedicating my fight on December 7th to a very special guy who was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer earlier this year and sadly passed away on March 17th. Michael McGrath was my best friends brother and very much like a brother to me. He was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. He was not a man of many words but he was a gentle soul and he is gone way too soon. I am fighting for all that are currently fighting cancer, for those that battled cancer and beat cancer but live in fear that it might return, and fighting for a cure. Let's KO Cancer together!
