Why I box

“I wish everyone could feel the effects of a terminal cancer diagnosis, without actually being sick. This would allow people to truly focus on the things that matter most in life, which to me is faith, family, and friends.” - Chris Curtis

Haymakers for Hope gives everyday men and women the opportunity to fight back against cancer by training for and competing in charity boxing events to raise money and awareness.

I feel so honored to be among the 32 women who will be picking up the gloves to #KOCancer this October. God has blessed me with good health (albeit some scrawny arms), so much to the chagrin of my mother, I'm stepping into the ring to do my part to end this horrible disease.

In honor of my father, Roger, as well as the Curtis family, all of my direct donations will benefit the incredible programs of TEAM CORK.

If you asked Chris Curtis or my Dad, they'd both tell you the most important things in life are faith, family, and friends. They both have battled cancer with the love and support of family and friends, but not every cancer patient is blessed with the same network of support. There is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing a cancer patient alone at an appointment, scan, or chemotherapy infusion. Team Cork Inc. was founded with the mission to not only raise cancer awareness, but also to raise funds for cancer patient welfare programs, and to provide a support network for those battling cancer alone.

Team Cork considers itself to be "the little charity that could," and was honored with the 2019 Massachusetts Society of Clinical Oncologists Audesse Award, recognizing the organization that has made a significant contribution in the area of cancer care and treatment, patients' rights, or cancer education.

Between now and October 9th, I'll be training out of EverybodyFights with 5 other (crazy) ladies like me. I'll be posting updates all along the way to Facebook and Instagram (@ev416)... should be pretty interesting to see if a washed up tennis player can turn into a real fighter.

Your support is so appreciated. I promise I will lay it all out there every day of my training, and most of all, on Fight Night.
