Strength doesn't come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn't.
Rikki Rogers
In 2009 I ran the Boston Marathon for Dana Farber because I was losing family to cancer. I ran in memory of some, and in support of others. I ran because I wanted to feel like I was doing something for my family. Here I am, almost 10 years later, fighting back again. I have lost 5 close family members since I ran, 5 people who were a huge part of my life growing up and as an adult, all who never got to meet my son. The grief of their loss has settled, and now I need to do something. I am getting into the ring with Haymakers for Hope to literally fight back and raise money and awareness. I am training hard for the next four months and when I get into the ring in October, I will leave every ounce of blood, sweat, and tears on the floor. I am fighting in memory of my family and in honor of my friends who are battling this terrible disease. I am fighting because it helps me feel like I can do something to contribute. I am a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a social worker, and a fighter of all things unjust.
